Jane Iredale Lip Pencil

Mineral-based lip liner in 11 shades

The Jane Iredale Lip Pencil combines sharp color definition with a soft, no-tug formula that doesn’t pull on the delicate lip skin. Available in eleven carefully curated shades — from light pink brown to dramatic aubergine purple — this mineral-based lip liner offers a modern take on classic lip pencils for both precise definition and full lip base applications.

Where traditional lip liners often dry out and feel hard upon application, this Jane Iredale lip liner goes a step further. Nourishing jojoba oil, shea butter, meadowfoam, and macadamia oil care for and protect the lip barrier during wear, while vitamins E and C act as antioxidants against environmental influences. The pencil is soft enough to serve as a full lip base but durable enough to provide a long-lasting color foundation under lipsticks and glosses.

Why choose the Jane Iredale Lip Pencil?

The Lip Pencil line stands out by combining intense mineral pigmentation with skin-care ingredients in one step. The soft formula is excellent for blending and building dimension on the lips. For optimal performance, we recommend sharpening the pencil with a Jane Iredale sharpener — other sharpeners are often too harsh for the soft wooden casing and delicate mineral formula.

Find your ideal shade

The eleven shades in this collection are divided into five color categories, so you can quickly find the shade that suits your skin tone, lipstick, or desired look.

Nudes and refined daytime looks: Spice is a light pink brown for subtle definition, Nude a medium dark peach brown for warm nude looks, and Nutmeg a medium pink brown for sophisticated '90s nude' aesthetics.

Rose and warm pink tones: Rose is a universal medium rosy pink with a balanced undertone, and Warm Rose a warm rosy pink with a gold-pink undertone for sun-kissed feminine warmth.

Warm peach and coral looks: Peach is a medium peach coral for refreshing summer looks, and Terra Cotta a medium coral brown with a warm orange-brown undertone for earthy editorial looks.

Red, berry, and dramatic dark shades: Classic Red is a candy apple red for iconic Old Hollywood looks, Berry a dark berry pink for berry evening looks, and Aubergine an intense aubergine purple for dramatic, cinematic statement looks.

Earthy cocoa for sophisticated depth: Cocoa is a classic chocolate brown for editorial daily looks and works exceptionally well as a contour under caramel, caramel, and warm earthy lipsticks.

How to use the Jane Iredale lip pencil?

1. Ensure lips are hydrated as a base — optionally prepared with a lip balm for optimal glide
2. Sharpen the pencil with a Jane Iredale sharpener to maintain an even, rounded tip — standard sharpeners can splinter the wooden casing or crush the soft formula
3. Trace the lip contour with the Jane Iredale lip liner, from the corners of the mouth to the cupid’s bow for a natural lip shape
4. If desired, fill in the entire lips as a base layer for extra color intensity and longevity — especially recommended with dark and intense lipsticks
5. Finish with a matching or complementary lipstick from the ColorLuxe Cream Lipstick line, or a gloss from the HydroPure or ColorLuxe lines
6. Store the pencil at room temperature, away from direct sunlight, to preserve the soft formula optimally

Frequently Asked Questions

Which shade best matches my lipstick?

As a general guideline: choose a lip liner in the same color family as your lipstick for natural definition, or a subtle shade darker for extra dimension. Nude lipsticks work well with Spice, Nude, or Nutmeg. Pink and rose looks call for Rose or Warm Rose. Red looks are best complemented by Classic Red, and berry and dark looks by Berry, Aubergine, or Cocoa.

Can I wear a Jane Iredale lip pencil as a solo lip color?

Absolutely. The soft, nourishing formula with jojoba oil, shea butter, and meadowfoam makes every Jane Iredale lip liner exceptionally comfortable as a full lip base. For a matte look, you can apply the pencil solo — for extra shine, finish with a sheer gloss.

Why do you specifically recommend a Jane Iredale sharpener?

The wooden casings of the Jane Iredale lip pencil line are soft to prevent splintering during use. Standard sharpeners are often too aggressive and can splinter the wood or crush the soft mineral formula. The Jane Iredale sharpener is specially designed to maintain an even, rounded tip without damaging the product.

Does the pencil pull on my lips during application?

No. The formula is deliberately developed with soothing jojoba oil, shea butter, and meadowfoam to prevent the Jane Iredale lip pencil from pulling on the delicate lip barrier. The soft glide is one of the signature features of this mineral-based pencil line and makes the lip liners suitable for sensitive or mature lips.

Are the Jane Iredale lip pencils vegan?

The formula may contain carmine (derived from insects) in certain shades, so not all variants are strictly vegan. For a full ingredient list per shade, please refer to the individual product pages. All variants are cruelty-free and gluten-free.
