Lycogel Camouflage

Breathable make-up from medical aesthetics with SPF 30

Lycogel is a breathable make-up brand launched in 2004 within the medical aesthetic sector. Plastic surgeons and their patients were looking for make-up that could be worn immediately after a procedure — without blocking the skin, without allergic reactions, and with enough coverage to conceal signs of surgery. Lycogel was developed in response to this specific need and grew into a product that patients continued to use even after their recovery.

The reason for this loyalty was simple: users experienced anti-aging effects, reduction of couperose and rosacea complaints, and skin that looked better under the make-up rather than worse. Today, Lycogel offers two product lines — Breathable Camouflage and Breathable Tint — covering the full spectrum from daily make-up to post-procedure coverage, with SPF 30, hypoallergenic formulations, and a unique oxygen-permeable technology.

Why choose Lycogel?

Lycogel distinguishes itself from traditional make-up brands on four essential points. The Designer Gel Base — an oxygen-permeable matrix developed by Lycogel itself — allows the skin to breathe from the moment of application, while the formula simultaneously adheres firmly to the skin. On top of that, each formula contains the LYCO-Complex with plant-based oxygen, hyaluronic acid in three molecular weights, and post-biotic nourishment. All products also offer SPF 30 with UVA and UVB protection and are water- and transfer-resistant for up to 90 minutes. This combination of long-lasting wear, skin-friendliness, and integrated sun protection is rare in the regular make-up world.

The story behind the brand

Lycogel was launched in 2004 in the medical aesthetic sector as post-procedure make-up for cosmetic surgeons and their patients. The requirement was clear: a formula that could be applied immediately after surgery, peeling, or laser treatment without hindering wound healing or triggering allergic reactions.

From 2008, the products became available for daily use outside the medical context because patients continued to use the brand after recovery for a better daily skin appearance. In 2015, the line expanded with additional colors and formulations to cover every skin type and occasion. In 2023, the brand underwent a thorough modernization with a revised supply chain, lower CO2 footprint, and clean plastic packaging. The headquarters and R&D laboratory are based in the Netherlands, from where Lycogel has been supplied worldwide for more than twenty years.

The formulation philosophy

The Lycogel philosophy is built on four core principles that recur in every formula. The first is breathable coverage — the Designer Gel Base ensures the skin can continue to breathe under the make-up, instead of being sealed off like with traditional foundations. The second is active skincare during wear through the LYCO-Complex, which delivers oxygen, hydration, and post-biotic nourishment to the skin throughout the entire wear time.

The third principle is integrated protection with SPF 30 and UVA/UVB filters in every product, often making a separate daily sunscreen unnecessary, provided enough product is applied and replenished during intense UV exposure. The fourth is clinical safety: all Lycogel formulas are hypoallergenic, oil-free, and non-comedogenic, suitable even for the most sensitive skin and for use after medical skin treatments. Lycogel thus positions itself as cosmeceutical breathable make-up — a category that combines make-up, skincare, and protection in one product.

The two product lines

Lycogel offers two distinctive product lines that complement each other based on desired coverage and finish.

Lycogel Breathable Camouflage: Buildable camouflage foundation with a matte finish in eight shades from fair skin to tanned skin. This line is intended for those who want full coverage for couperose, rosacea, melasma, post-acne pigmentation, or after a skin treatment. Popular shades include Lycogel Breathable Camouflage Beige for light skin and Lycogel Breathable Camouflage Sand for medium skin.

Lycogel Breathable Tint: Light glow tint with a luminous finish in six shades from fair skin to dark skin. The Tint is formulated for daily use by those who want a natural look without heavy foundation — the skin retains its own brightness and gains a healthy glow. Popular tints are Lycogel Breathable Tint Nr. 1 for fair skin and Lycogel Breathable Tint Nr. 2 for light skin. Both lines can be combined: the Tint as a base layer, the Camouflage targeted on problem areas.

Frequently asked questions

Who is Lycogel suitable for?

Lycogel is suitable for almost every skin type, from sensitive fair skin with couperose to dark skin with hyperpigmentation. The brand originated in medical aesthetics and is used on even the most irritated or recently treated skin, thanks to its hypoallergenic and non-comedogenic formula.

Do Lycogel products contain sun protection?

Yes, all Lycogel products contain SPF 30 with both UVA and UVB protection. For a daily routine, this often makes a separate sunscreen unnecessary, provided enough product is applied and replenished during intense UV exposure.

How long does Lycogel last on the skin?

Lycogel is water- and transfer-resistant for up to 90 minutes and stays in place all day with normal use without oxidizing or deforming. Even during sports, swimming, or warm weather conditions, the make-up retains its color and coverage.

Is Lycogel non-comedogenic and suitable for acne-prone skin?

Yes, all Lycogel products are oil-free and do not clog pores. The Designer Gel Base allows the skin to breathe under the make-up, enabling natural sebum production and skin renewal to continue normally. This makes Lycogel a popular brand for acne-prone skin.

How long is a tube of Lycogel good after opening?

An opened tube of Lycogel Breathable Camouflage or Tint is generally good for 12 months after opening (PAO indication 12M). Store the product at room temperature and away from direct sunlight for optimal performance and color retention.

Can I combine Camouflage and Tint in one routine?

Yes, both lines are deliberately designed to be combined. A common approach is to apply Lycogel Breathable Tint as a base layer over the entire face for an even glow, then apply a dot of Lycogel Breathable Camouflage targeted on pigmentation spots, couperose, or post-acne areas where full coverage is desired.
