Dermalogica Skincare

Professional skincare, developed by skin therapists since 1986

Dermalogica is the world's most recommended professional skincare brand, founded in Los Angeles in 1986 by skin therapist Jane Wurwand. The brand was created three years after her training institute, The International Dermal Institute, following a clear observation: there was no product line built to the standard of a clinically trained skin therapist, focused on skin health rather than packaging and marketing. From its very first formula, Dermalogica chose ingredients that genuinely support the skin — without artificial colours, fragrances, mineral oil or lanolin.

For your skin, that means a range that follows the same logic as a professional salon treatment: targeted product lines for each skin concern, active ingredients in effective concentrations, and a system that adapts to every skin type and stage of life. Whether you want to buy Dermalogica online for a daily routine, are looking for targeted help with pigmentation, acne or sensitivity, or want to compare the best-known bestsellers — you'll find the complete range in the collections below.

Why choose Dermalogica?

Dermalogica stands out through its direct link between education and product development. Through The International Dermal Institute, more than 100,000 skin therapists are trained worldwide, and the insights from daily practice feed directly into the formulas — from classic actives such as salicylic acid, hyaluronic acid and retinol to newer technologies such as biomimetic peptides and plant-based exosomes. Each product line is designed as a coherent system rather than a collection of individual products, so cleanser, serum and moisturiser reinforce one another's action. This combination of clinical grounding, a consistent ingredient philosophy and a systematic approach by skin concern makes Dermalogica a reference brand within professional skincare.

The story behind the brand

The story of Dermalogica begins in 1983, when English-trained skin therapist Jane Wurwand emigrates to Los Angeles. She discovers that the United States has no advanced training in skin and body treatments at the level she followed in England, and together with her husband Raymond founds The International Dermal Institute (IDI): a postgraduate training centre that today has more than 40 locations worldwide.

Three years later, in 1986, she takes the next step. Jane Wurwand feels the absence of a product line that meets IDI's educational standard and is fully focused on skin health rather than marketing promises. She develops her own formulas and Dermalogica is born — from day one without artificial colours, fragrances, mineral oil, lanolin or animal testing.

In the decades that follow, Dermalogica grows into the world's most recommended professional skincare brand, with products used by more than 100,000 skin therapists in over 100 countries. In 2014, Jane Wurwand receives the CEW Achiever Award for her work on women's financial independence within the beauty industry — recognition of the wider mission behind the brand: giving people the knowledge and means to take control of their skin, and their future.

The formula philosophy

Dermalogica formulas rest on a few recurring principles. First, a strict clean list: since the brand's founding in 1986, the formulations have contained no artificial colours, synthetic fragrances, mineral oil, lanolin, SD alcohol, parabens or microplastics. Second, Dermalogica works with active ingredients in concentrations designed for visible results — from classic actives such as salicylic acid, hyaluronic acid, niacinamide, retinol and vitamin C to newer technologies such as biomimetic peptides and plant-based exosomes.

Third, packaging plays a functional role: Dermalogica sells almost nothing in jars but in tubes and pump systems — so the actives are not exposed to air or fingers and retain their efficacy. This choice fits within a broader sustainability policy: all cardboard packaging is FSC-certified, shipping packaging is SFI-certified, and several product lines are available as refills that use up to 92% less plastic.

Dermalogica positions itself as professional skincare: formulas originally developed for salon use and grounded in insights from professional skin therapy practice. The brand is certified cruelty-free by PETA and Leaping Bunny, and the formulas are vegan and gluten-free.

The 9 product lines

The Dermalogica range is organised around skin concerns and life stages, with Daily Skin Health as its foundation and eight targeted lines built on top. Below is an overview of all nine lines, each with its own focus.

Dermalogica Daily Skin Health: the brand's core line and the foundation of any routine — with cleansers, exfoliants, toners, serums, eye care, moisturisers and SPF that layer together easily. Bestsellers in this line include the Daily Microfoliant and the Pro-Collagen Banking Water Cream.

Dermalogica Dynamic Skin: a complete anti-ageing routine combining exfoliation, retinol, peptides, antioxidants, SPF and nourishment in formulas for both face and body — including the Dynamic Skin Recovery SPF50 and the Dynamic Skin Sculptor body serum.

Dermalogica MultiVitamin Power: developed for skin dealing with stress-related signs of ageing, with vitamins A, C and E in an eye cream, day cream, mask and scrub that help the skin recover from sleep deprivation, screen time and environmental stress.

Dermalogica Phyto Nature: the brand's most advanced anti-ageing line, with sapphire-bound peptides and plant-based exosomes for firmness and vitality — including the daily leave-on Phyto Nature E2 and the Phyto Nature Oxygen Cream.

Dermalogica BioLumin-C: a vitamin C system built around an ultra-stable complex that brings together cleanser, serum, eye care, moisturiser and SPF for a more even, radiant complexion — with the BioLumin-C Serum as its best-known product.

Dermalogica UltraCalming: specially developed for sensitive skin prone to redness, built around the UltraCalming Complex with oat and soothing plant extracts that strengthen the skin barrier and raise the tolerance threshold.

Dermalogica PowerBright: targets pigmentation, melasma and post-acne marks at multiple layers of the skin, with mandelic acid, tranexamic acid and hexylresorcinol in a peel, serum and night cream.

Dermalogica Active Clearing: for adult skin prone to blemishes, featuring targeted products such as Clearing Skin Wash, AGE Bright Clearing Serum and Retinol Clearing Oil.

Dermalogica Clear Start: a range designed specifically for young skin with imperfections — with mild cleansers, targeted treatments and SPF adapted to the more sensitive teenage skin.

Additional shopping category — Dermalogica Body Collection: carries the skincare approach from the face to the body — with hydrating and exfoliating formulas and targeted products for the skin on the back, arms, stomach and thighs.

Frequently asked questions

Who is Dermalogica suitable for?

Dermalogica develops products for all skin types and most skin concerns — from a basic routine for healthy skin to targeted solutions for acne, pigmentation, sensitivity or ageing skin. Because the range is organised into separate lines by skin concern, you easily compose a routine that suits your skin type and age, from teenagers using Clear Start to more mature skin using Dynamic Skin or Phyto Nature.

What makes Dermalogica scientifically different from other skincare brands?

Dermalogica was founded by a skin therapist and is closely linked to The International Dermal Institute, which has trained over 100,000 skin therapists worldwide. The formulas are developed from that practical expertise and contain active ingredients in concentrations designed for visible results — from classic actives such as retinol and vitamin C to newer technologies such as biomimetic peptides and plant-based exosomes.

How does shipping work for European Union customers?

Glam Skin Webshop ships from within the European Union, which means your order arrives without unexpected customs or additional VAT charges — the VAT is already included at checkout and clearly shown before you pay. Free shipping is available from €65 in most Western European countries, with slightly higher thresholds for more distant destinations such as the Baltic states, Greece, Portugal and Cyprus. The exact free-shipping threshold for your country is calculated automatically at checkout.

Where can I buy Dermalogica in my country?

Dermalogica is available at authorised salons, skin therapists and online retailers across the European Union, the United Kingdom, Ireland and Switzerland. If your country doesn't have a dedicated local Dermalogica webshop in your language, Glam Skin Webshop is an authorised European retailer that ships to all EU member states plus the UK, Ireland and Switzerland — with English customer support, complimentary samples with every order and the same product guarantee you'd receive from a professional Dermalogica salon.

Does Dermalogica test on animals and are the products vegan?

No. Dermalogica has been cruelty-free since its founding in 1986 and is certified by PETA and Leaping Bunny. The formulas are also vegan and gluten-free, and the packaging is FSC- and SFI-certified, with several lines available as refills that significantly reduce plastic use.

Can I combine products from different Dermalogica lines?

Yes — that is even the standard approach within Dermalogica. Daily Skin Health forms the basis of many routines, with cleanser, toner, exfoliant and SPF, complemented by targeted products from a line such as BioLumin-C, PowerBright, UltraCalming or MultiVitamin Power for a specific skin concern. When combining potent actives like retinol and acids, be mindful of how you build your routine and introduce new actives gradually.
