Jane Iredale PureBrow Precision Pencil

Precision eyebrow pencil in six natural shades

Choosing the right eyebrow shade is more important than many women realize. While a wrongly chosen color immediately throws the face out of balance, a precisely matching shade lifts the entire look without anyone noticing a change. The PureBrow Precision Pencil by Jane Iredale is available in six carefully curated shades covering the broad color spectrum from blonde to black.

Each pencil combines the same ultra-fine twist-up tip, waterproof powder-wax formula, and built-in spoolie — the shade makes the difference. On this page, you’ll find all six variants clearly arranged from light to dark, with advice per hair color on which shade suits you best.

Why choose the PureBrow Precision Pencil?

These eyebrow pencils were developed by Jane Iredale, a brand formulating makeup since 1994 according to clean beauty principles. The formula contains vitamins C and E to keep eyebrow hairs stronger, mineral iron oxides for skin-friendly pigmentation, and synthetic wax for waterproof long-lasting wear. All variants are vegan, wheat-free, and suitable for the sensitive skin around the eyes. The retractable tip eliminates the need for sharpening, and the spoolie on the other end ensures a seamless natural result.

Find your ideal shade

The six variants are grouped by hair color family. Jane Iredale’s rule of thumb: never choose more than half a shade darker than your own hair color.

Blonde shades

For blonde hair, there are two options covering the spectrum between cool and neutral blonde. Ash Blonde has a distinct cool, taupe-gray undertone and is ideal for light blonde to strawberry blonde hair without warm glow. Neutral Blonde is the balanced mid-tone without a pronounced undertone, perfect for light to medium blonde and graying hair.

Red and strawberry blonde

Auburn is the only shade with a distinct warm red undertone and works for natural red hair, dyed auburn, copper blonde, and warm strawberry blonde. While a brown pencil separates from red hair, Auburn weaves right into it.

Brown shades

For brown hair, there are two intensities. Medium Brown is the most chosen shade in the range and suits medium to dark brown hair with a warm neutral undertone. Dark Brown is more intensely pigmented for medium to deep brown hair that requires a darker match.

Black hair

Soft Black is a soft black with brown warmth, developed for dark brown to black hair. Fully black pigmentation rarely looks natural, even on black hair — this softened variant solves that.

How to use the PureBrow Precision Pencil?

1. First, brush the eyebrows upward with the built-in spoolie so you can clearly see the natural shape and any sparse spots
2. Twist out a small amount of the tip — less for darker shades than lighter ones, as pigment deposits faster
3. Start filling in the tail of the eyebrow and work back toward the bridge of the nose with gradually lighter pressure
4. Make loose, short strokes in the direction of hair growth to mimic individual hairs; avoid any continuous lines
5. Carefully blend everything with the spoolie so the color merges with your own hairs and no sharp transitions remain visible

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I choose between two shades that are close to each other?

Always go for the lighter of the two options. Half a shade darker than your own hair color is the maximum rule — beyond that, it quickly looks made-up and artificial. You can always apply a second layer for more intensity, but starting too dark is hard to correct.

Is the formula the same for all shades or only the color?

The base formula with vitamins C, E, synthetic wax, and mineral pigments is the same for all six variants. Only the composition and concentration of the iron oxide pigments differ to create the six shades. The durability, waterproofness, and skin-friendliness are therefore identical.

Does this pencil also work for mature skin and thinning eyebrows?

Excellent, in fact. The fine precision tip is developed to mimic individual hairs, which is essential for a natural result with thinning eyebrows. The nourishing ingredients also help keep the remaining hairs supple and healthy.

Can I combine this pencil with an eyebrow gel?

Yes, Jane Iredale offers a matching PureBrow Brow Gel that holds the color longer and fixes the eyebrow hairs in place. Apply the pencil first and finish with the gel for a look that even withstands a warm day.
