Jane Iredale PureBrow Shaping Pencil

Shaping eyebrow pencil with droplet tip in six shades

The shape of the eyebrow determines the expression of the face more than any other makeup. While a fine precision pencil focuses on touching up existing eyebrows, a shaping pencil is designed to actively build the shape. For women whose eyebrows have thinned over the years, are naturally sparse, or have never had a clear contour, this type of pencil is the ideal tool.

Jane Iredale's PureBrow Shaping Pencil is available in six shades and works through a unique droplet-shaped tip: the broader side fills and shapes, the finer side draws the contour. So with one pencil, you get a 3-in-1 solution that makes separate products for outlining and filling unnecessary. On this page, you will find all six variants arranged from light to dark, with advice per hair color on which shade suits you best.

Why choose the PureBrow Shaping Pencil?

The PureBrow Shaping Pencil is developed for women who want not only to define their eyebrows but also to shape them. The droplet-shaped tip is the core USP: where regular eyebrow pencils force you to either line or fill, this pencil does both with the same stick. The formula is enriched with vitamins C and E for the health of eyebrow hairs, water-resistant for all-day wear, and free from wheat or animal ingredients according to Jane Iredale's clean beauty standard. All variants use mineral iron oxide pigments that are gentle on the sensitive skin around the eye.

Find your ideal shade

The six shades are grouped by hair color family. An important rule of thumb for this Shaping variant: choose a shade slightly lighter than with the Precision Pencil, because the broader application makes the color appear visually more intense on the eyebrow area.

Blonde shades

For blonde hair, there are two options. The Ash Blonde has a cool, taupe-gray undertone and is intended for light blonde to strawberry blonde hair without a warm glow. The Neutral Blonde is the balanced mid-tone without undertone, ideal for light to medium blonde and graying hair that falls between cool and warm.

Red and strawberry blonde

The Auburn is the only shade with a pronounced warm red undertone and the recommended choice for natural red hair, dyed auburn, copper blonde, and warm strawberry blonde. This is especially relevant for the shaping variant because the broader application spreads color over a larger area — a wrong undertone then stands out even more.

Brown shades

The brown shades cover the largest segment of users. The Medium Brown is the best-selling shade of the range and works for medium to dark brown hair with a warm neutral undertone. The Dark Brown is more deeply pigmented for medium to deep brown hair that requires a more intense match without the sharpness of black.

Black hair

The Soft Black is a soft black with brown warmth, developed for dark brown to black hair. With a shaping pencil, black pigment requires extra measured application, making this variant especially suitable for experienced users who have mastered the dosage.

How to use the PureBrow Shaping Pencil?

1. First, brush the eyebrows upward with the built-in spoolie so you can clearly see the natural shape and any sparse spots
2. Twist out a small piece of the droplet tip — use even less for dark shades than for light ones
3. Draw the upper and lower lines of the eyebrow with the fine side as a contour
4. Fill the area in between with the broader side using short tapping motions in the direction of hair growth
5. Carefully blend everything with the spoolie so the contour softly fades into the middle area and the whole blends with your own hairs

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between the Shaping Pencil and the Precision Pencil?

The Precision Pencil has an ultra-fine tip and is made to mimic individual hairs — ideal for women with an existing eyebrow shape that only needs touching up. The Shaping Pencil has a droplet-shaped tip and actively builds the eyebrow shape from a thin or undefined base. Both pencils use the same formula; only the tip differs.

How do I choose between two shades that are close to each other?

For the Shaping variant, the rule is always to go for the lighter option. The broader application visually intensifies the color impression, so a half shade darker than your hair with the Precision Pencil can already be too much with the Shaping. When in doubt, choose lighter.

Can I combine this pencil with other PureBrow products?

Yes, after shaping with the Shaping Pencil, the matching PureBrow Brow Gel provides extra fixation and durability. For those who want even more detail work, the Precision Pencil in the same shade can be added to draw individual hairs on weaker spots after shaping.

Does this pencil work on very thin eyebrows caused by years of plucking?

The Shaping Pencil was developed especially for this group. Where a precision pencil delivers only fragmentary results on sparse eyebrows, the broader side of the droplet tip builds a full shape from little natural base. Optionally combine with PureBrow Brow Gel for extra structure and durability.
