Cosmedix Clarity Skin-Clarifying Serum 30ml

Description
Acne serum with retinol and salicylic acid for impure skin
Impurities, blackheads, and periodic breakouts remain a skin problem for many adults, even after their teenage years. The cause is rarely poor hygiene but a complex combination of excess sebum, dead skin cells blocking the pore, hormonal fluctuations, and the bacterial balance on the skin. An acne routine that addresses only one of these factors — such as an aggressive cleanser or a spot treatment — often works temporarily and eventually leads to dry, sensitive skin that actually produces more sebum.
Cosmedix Clarity is a targeted clarifying serum that combines retinol and salicylic acid in one formula, supplemented with niacinamide, tea tree oil, and soothing botanicals like willow herb and aloe vera. The serum works on multiple levels simultaneously: it exfoliates the pore, reduces sebum production, calms inflammation, and strengthens the skin barrier. Suitable for use on the entire face or as a targeted spot treatment on problem areas.
Benefits
- Reduces the visibility of pimples, blackheads, and impurities
- Regulates sebum production without drying out the skin
- Fades acne scars and post-inflammatory pigmentation spots
- Soothes redness with willow herb and aloe vera
- Suitable for daily use on the entire face or as a spot treatment
Active ingredients
Retinol and Retinyl Acetate: Two forms of vitamin A that stimulate cell renewal and keep the pore clear. Retinol normalizes keratinization — the process where dead skin cells block the pore — which is the root cause of blackheads and pimples. Moreover, retinol refines skin texture and fades post-acne pigmentation spots in the long term.
Salicylic Acid and Acetylsalicylic Acid: A beta-hydroxy acid that is oil-soluble and can therefore penetrate deep into the pore. It dissolves sebum, dead skin cells, and impurities before they lead to inflammation. Acetylsalicylic acid additionally works as an anti-inflammatory on existing pimples.
Niacinamide (vitamin B3): An ingredient with a broad spectrum of action that delivers three effects simultaneously for impure skin: it regulates sebum production, reduces the visibility of redness, and strengthens the skin barrier. A often overlooked ingredient that makes the difference between irritated acne-prone skin and a controlled, recovering skin.
Tea tree oil (Melaleuca Alternifolia): An essential oil with antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, traditionally used for acne. Reduces bacterial load in the pores and soothes the skin around an active pimple.
Willowherb extract (Epilobium Angustifolium): A plant-based ingredient with soothing and anti-inflammatory properties. Helps reduce the redness and sensitivity often associated with acne — a valuable addition for sensitive acne-prone skin.
Saw Palmetto extract and Stone Root extract: Two botanical ingredients that help regulate sebum. Saw Palmetto inhibits the transfer of androgen hormones to the sebaceous glands, which is especially valuable for hormonal acne.
Aloe vera and chamomile extract: Two classic soothing ingredients that calm the skin during the action of retinol and salicylic acid. Make the formula more tolerable for sensitive skin types.
Hydroxyproline and saccharide isomerate: Two moisturizing ingredients that support the skin barrier during active treatment. Prevent the skin from drying out due to the combination of retinol and salicylic acid.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between Clarity and Clarify?
Clarify is a foaming cleanser with salicylic acid — a first step that is rinsed off daily. Clarity is a leave-on serum with retinol and salicylic acid applied after cleansing and stays on the skin for hours. The two are complementary: Clarify cleanses the skin, Clarity treats the skin. Many users combine both in the same routine for maximum results on acne-prone skin.
When will I see the first results from Clarity?
The first improvement in oil control and skin texture is usually visible after 2 to 4 weeks. For structural reduction of pimples and blackheads, daily use for 8 to 12 weeks is needed. Acne scars and pigmentation spots take the longest — three to six months — for visible fading. The skin may go through a 'purging phase' in the first weeks, where underlying impurities come to the surface. This is normal and will disappear on its own.
Can I use Clarity during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
No. The formula contains both retinol and salicylic acid — both ingredients that are not recommended during these periods. For a safe acne routine during pregnancy, alternatives are available such as a serum with only niacinamide or low-concentration glycolic acid. Consult your midwife or skin therapist for personalized advice.
Can I combine Clarity with other retinol products like Serum 16 or Define?
Not on the same evening — that causes an overdose of retinol. If you already use a retinol serum, it’s better to use Clarity as a targeted spot treatment on problem areas rather than the whole face. Or alternate both products on different evenings of the week. If in doubt, consult a skin therapist for a tailored schedule.
Is Clarity suitable for sensitive skin?
The formula contains denatured alcohol and both retinol and salicylic acid, which can cause irritation in very sensitive skin in some cases. If you have sensitive skin, it’s best to start every other day and gradually increase use. For very reactive skin with impurities, a milder approach is better — for example, only Clarify (cleanser with salicylic acid) combined with Cell ID or Affirm for care.
What is a 'purging phase' and how long does it last?
Purging is a temporary worsening of breakouts in the first weeks of retinol or salicylic acid use, caused by underlying impurities surfacing more quickly. It usually lasts 4 to 6 weeks and is a sign that the product is working. A persistent worsening after six weeks is no longer purging and may indicate the product is unsuitable — in that case, pause use and seek advice.
