Description
Cream cleanser with magnetic technology for hydrated radiant skin
A cleanser has one main task: to clean the skin. But in practice, most cleansers also do something extra unnoticed, namely removing moisture that the skin actually needs. In dehydrated skin, this leads to a vicious cycle: the more often you cleanse, the duller and tighter the skin feels, the more products you need afterwards to fix that. A new generation of cleansers approaches this differently. Instead of passively leaving moisture in the skin like a regular cleanser, they actively add hydration during washing.
Dermalogica Magnetic Afterglow Cleanser is exactly such a product. The cream cleanser is built around Cellular HydraBond technology with positively charged hyaluronic acid, which attaches to the skin like a magnet and leaves hydration instead of removing it. A phyto mucin complex with lotus root and 10% glycerin enhances this effect. The 150ml size is good for about three months of daily use and is the logical starter size to switch your cleansing routine.
Benefits
- Cleanses thoroughly and hydrates simultaneously thanks to magnetic technology
- Positively charged hyaluronic acid binds to the skin for long-lasting moisture retention
- Phyto mucin complex attracts moisture and strengthens the skin barrier
- Leaves the skin glowing after cleansing without feeling tight or dull
- Prepares the skin optimally for serums and moisturizers
Active ingredients
Cellular HydraBond technology with positively charged hyaluronic acid (Hydroxypropyltrimonium Hyaluronate): The key technology behind this product. Classic hyaluronic acid is neutrally charged and mostly rinses away during cleansing. This modified form carries a positive electric charge, while the skin surface is negatively charged. This causes the hyaluronic acid to attach to the skin during washing instead of rinsing off. The result is hydration that remains on the skin even after rinsing.
Phyto Mucin Complex with lotus root extract (Nelumbo Nucifera): A plant-based mucin complex inspired by the hydrating effect of snail mucin, but completely vegan. Lotus root is naturally rich in polysaccharides that bind moisture and make the skin supple. This complex works synergistically with the positively charged hyaluronic acid and enhances the magnetic effect for moisture.
10% Glycerin: An unusually high concentration of glycerin in a cleanser. Glycerin is one of the most proven humectants in skincare and binds moisture from the environment to the skin. This dosage ensures the skin feels immediately hydrated during and after cleansing, without the tight sensation typical of classic foaming cleansers.
Murumuru seed butter (Sodium Astrocaryum Murumuruate): A rich butter from the Amazon rainforest that nourishes and soothes the skin during cleansing. Murumuru contains a high content of saturated fatty acids that support the skin barrier and help prevent moisture from evaporating after cleansing.
Oat amino acids (Sodium Lauroyl Oat Amino Acids): A mild cleansing agent derived from oats, an ingredient valued for centuries for its soothing effect on the skin. These oat derivatives cleanse gently without washing away the skin’s natural lipids and are especially suitable for sensitive or reactive skin.
Saccharide Isomerate: A plant-based sugar molecule that binds to the skin’s natural moisturizing factor and retains moisture for up to 72 hours. In a cleanser, this ingredient is especially valuable because it continues the product’s hydrating effect long after rinsing.
Jojoba seed oil & sweet almond oil: Two plant oils that nourish the skin without feeling heavy. Jojoba mimics the skin’s natural sebum and is well tolerated by all skin types, including skin prone to impurities. Sweet almond oil softens the skin and gives the formula its characteristic smooth glide.
Lauryl Glucoside & Decyl Glucoside: Two mild sugar-based cleansing agents that provide a light, creamy texture. Unlike harsh sulfates, they cleanse without washing away the skin barrier. This keeps the skin soft and hydrated after cleansing instead of tight.

Frequently asked questions
How does this cleanser differ from Intensive Moisture Cleanser?
Both are nourishing cleansers but with different focuses. Intensive Moisture Cleanser is a lipid-rich cream cleanser specifically developed for dry skin lacking nourishment. Magnetic Afterglow Cleanser targets dehydrated skin, meaning moisture deficiency, and uses magnetic technology to actively bring hydration to the skin. Those who feel dry and tight after washing choose Intensive Moisture Cleanser; those who feel dull and tight choose Magnetic Afterglow.
How long does the 150ml bottle last approximately?
With twice daily use and one pump each time, the bottle lasts about three months. One pump is enough for face and neck, and the concentrated formula spreads easily. Those familiar with the product and who know it fits their routine can opt for the 295ml jumbo size with a better price per milliliter.
Does this cleanser also remove makeup?
Light to medium makeup is removed well. For heavy foundation, waterproof mascara, or strong sunscreen, double cleansing works better, where you first use a pre-cleanse oil to dissolve makeup and then Magnetic Afterglow Cleanser for the actual cleansing.
What does it mean that hyaluronic acid is "positively charged"?
In nature, positive and negative charges attract each other. The skin surface carries a slight negative charge. Standard hyaluronic acid is neutral and rinses away, but Hydroxypropyltrimonium Hyaluronate is chemically modified to have a positive charge. This causes the hyaluronic acid to "magnetize" to the skin during cleansing instead of rinsing off. This is the scientific basis behind the glow claim.
Is this cleanser suitable for my oily skin?
Yes, oily skin and dehydrated skin often go hand in hand. Many people with oily skin also have moisture deficiency in the skin layers, and the oily shine is a compensatory mechanism. By providing moisture without adding lipids, the overactive sebum production often decreases. Those with very oily skin prone to impurities can first do a patch test.
Can I combine the product with Daily Microfoliant?
Yes, and the combination is appreciated by many users. First activate the Daily Microfoliant in wet hands until a creamy foam forms, then add one pump of Magnetic Afterglow Cleanser and massage both products together over the face. This way you combine gentle enzymatic exfoliation with hydrating cleansing in one step.
Does the product contain fragrance?
The formula contains no synthetic fragrance but does include essential oils of bergamot, jasmine, and lime for their skin benefits and sensory character. These provide a natural scent during cleansing. For very fragrance-sensitive skin or rosacea, we recommend a patch test.
