Washing hands is one of the most repeated actions of the day — yet the hand soap used for this is rarely a conscious choice. Conventional hand soap cleans but also damages the skin barrier, removes the skin’s protective lipids, and leaves hands dry and tight, especially with frequent use.
The jane iredale Citrus + Charcoal Hand Wash is formulated with the opposite in mind. Active charcoal extract draws out impurities and toxins without irritation. A complex of citrus oils — lemon, grapefruit, lemongrass, and lime — cleanses the skin and provides a fresh, uplifting aroma. Vitamin E and glycerin support skin hydration so hands remain soft and supple after every wash. Free from artificial colorants. Also usable as a cleanser for the Magic Mitt® and makeup brushes.

Active ingredients
Charcoal Extract: Active charcoal acts like a magnet for impurities, toxins, and excess sebum. It draws these out of the pores without harsh cleansing — a gentle yet effective detox for hands that come into contact daily with many products and environmental influences.
Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E): A fat-soluble antioxidant that protects and supports the skin barrier. Vitamin E neutralizes free radicals, soothes the skin, and helps maintain hydration after washing — counteracting the drying effect of frequent hand washing.
Citrus Complex — Lemon, Grapefruit, Lemongrass & Lime: The combination of four citrus oils and extracts has multiple effects. They cleanse and refine the skin, stimulate the senses with a fresh, uplifting scent, and naturally contain antioxidant and mild antimicrobial properties.
Sodium Lauroyl Oat Amino Acids: Oat amino acids that actively soothe, hydrate, and protect the skin. They neutralize the potentially drying effects of surfactants and leave hands feeling soft immediately after washing.
Glycerin: A powerful humectant that attracts moisture from the environment and retains it in the upper skin layers. Glycerin is one of the most researched moisturizing ingredients in skincare and gives the skin a soft, supple texture that lasts after washing.
How to use
- Apply the hand soap to damp hands
- Scoop up and massage thoroughly — also between the fingers, on the back of the hand, and under the nails
- Massage for at least 20 seconds for a thorough cleanse and rinse well with warm water
- Use as a cleanser for the Magic Mitt®: apply to the damp mitt, massage through, and rinse clean
- Also use as a mild brush cleaner: apply to damp brush fibers, gently massage, and rinse thoroughly

Frequently Asked Questions
Does this hand soap dry out hands with frequent use?
No. The formula is specifically designed to cleanse and hydrate. Glycerin and Vitamin E maintain moisture levels, while mild coconut-based surfactants — such as Sodium Lauroyl Sarcosinate and Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate — do not strip the skin of its protective lipids. Hands feel soft after every wash.
Can I also use the hand soap to clean my brushes or Magic Mitt®?
Yes. The Citrus + Charcoal Hand Wash is also suitable as a mild cleanser for the Magic Mitt® and makeup brushes. Apply a small amount to the damp brush or mitt, gently massage through the fibers, and rinse thoroughly with warm water. Let the brush dry flat.
Does this product contain gluten?
The Citrus + Charcoal Hand Wash contains Sodium Lauroyl Oat Amino Acids, derived from oats. Therefore, the product is not wheat-free. People with celiac disease or severe gluten sensitivity are advised to avoid this product or consult a dermatologist.
