BB cream with a deep rich shade for dark skin
Dark skin has been poorly served for decades in the world of tinted day creams and BB creams. Many so-called "dark" shades actually come out too gray or ashy because they are developed from a lighter base tone that is simply more deeply pigmented — without taking into account the warm, rich undertones characteristic of dark skin. The result is a dull, lifeless appearance instead of a natural glow.
Dark Brown from the Blemish Balm collection by Dr Schrammek is deliberately developed as a deep, rich brown shade with a warm undertone — not a darkened beige, but a distinct color. This balm respects the natural glow of dark skin and provides the healthy, radiant look that this skin deserves. You also benefit from the same nourishing formula that has been the basis for BB creams worldwide since 1967, with zinc oxide, panthenol, and licorice root that soothe inflammation and fade pigmentation spots — an important advantage for a skin type that is extra sensitive to post-inflammatory pigmentation after pimples.
Shade Dark Brown
A deep, rich brown shade with a warm undertone — the darkest color in the Blemish Balm range. Dark Brown is suitable for dark skin with a warm undertone and provides natural coverage without an ashy or gray effect. The shade blends into the natural skin tone and enhances the healthy glow instead of dulling it, which many classic foundations do with dark skin.

Active ingredients
Licorice Root Extract (Liquorice Root): For dark skin, this is the most important active ingredient in the formula. Licorice root inhibits melanin production and visibly fades the dark pigmentation spots typically left after pimples — a common concern for dark skin. With consistent use, the skin tone becomes visibly more even.
Zinc Oxide: Has anti-inflammatory effects on active blemishes and provides physical UV protection. Although dark skin naturally has more melanin as sun protection, protection against UV radiation is also important to prevent hyperpigmentation — UV exposure stimulates extra pigment formation in areas where the skin has previously been inflamed.
Titanium Dioxide: A second mineral filter that, together with zinc oxide, offers broad-spectrum UV protection. In Dark Brown, the amount of titanium dioxide is adjusted to the shade — high enough for effective coverage and protection, but not so much that it leaves a visible white film as some mineral sunscreens do.
Panthenol (Provitamin B5): Attracts moisture, supports skin barrier repair, and soothes irritated skin. For skin actively dealing with inflammation, panthenol is an essential ingredient to speed up regeneration and thus prevent new pigmentation spots.
Bisabolol: A soothing ingredient from chamomile that calms irritations and relaxes the skin. Bisabolol enhances the effects of panthenol and licorice root and is a key reason why Blemish Balm is so suitable after intensive treatments like a Green Peel®.
Allantoin & Shea Butter: Allantoin stimulates cell renewal and smooths skin texture, while shea butter nourishes and keeps the skin supple. Shea butter is especially valuable for dark skin, which can naturally be more prone to dryness, and helps enhance the natural glow.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if Dark Brown is the right shade for me?
Dark Brown is suitable for dark skin with a warm undertone — if your arms and face have a rich brown color and yellow or rose gold jewelry suits you better than silver, this is probably your shade. Compare with the other colors: Honey is for normal to slightly darker skin, Dark Brown is much deeper and specifically for dark skin.
Does Dark Brown give an ashy effect like other dark foundations?
No, that is exactly why Dark Brown was deliberately developed. The warm undertone in the shade prevents the ashy effect that occurs when a shade is too cool for a warm skin undertone. With Dark Brown, the color blends harmoniously and actually enhances the natural glow.
Does licorice root also work against pigmentation spots on dark skin?
Exactly. For dark skin, licorice root extract is especially valuable because hyperpigmentation after pimples is often more prominent and persistent with this skin type. Licorice root works by inhibiting melanin overproduction and is therefore one of the safest lightening ingredients for dark skin — unlike more aggressive ingredients like hydroquinone.
Can I mix Dark Brown with Honey for an in-between shade?
Yes, mixing works excellently. If your shade is between Honey and Dark Brown, you can mix the two until you find your perfect match. You can also mix Dark Brown with your regular day cream for a lighter, more transparent coverage.
Is the Blemish Balm comedogenic — can it clog my pores?
No, the Blemish Balm is specifically developed for blemish-prone skin and is dermatologically tested not to clog pores. The mineral composition with zinc oxide even works antibacterial — the opposite of what clogs pores.
