Jane Iredale Foundation

The complete Jane Iredale foundation range for every skin type and finish

Choosing a foundation is more than just finding the right shade. The finish, coverage, skin type, and occasion together determine which formula truly suits you — and Jane Iredale offers everything from a light hydrating tinted moisturizer to a full coverage matte liquid foundation, and from pressed Jane Iredale powder foundation to a daily powder sunscreen. Seven foundation lines plus a nourishing primer line, together offering more than a hundred shades across all undertones.

The choice between these lines depends on what your skin needs on any given day: preparation for a smooth base, hydration with sheer coverage, full coverage matte for oily or combination skin, or a Jane Iredale powder layer that blocks the sun and absorbs shine. Below you’ll explore each subtype with its own role in the Jane Iredale foundation routine.

How do you choose the right Jane Iredale foundation?

Three factors determine which Jane Iredale foundation line suits you. First, your skin type — dry and mature skin benefits from a liquid formula with hyaluronic acid, oily and combination skin does better with matte control or a Jane Iredale powder finish. Second, the desired finish: from radiance and dewy to semi-matte and fully matte. Third, the coverage level: sheer for a no-makeup look, buildable medium for daily use, or full coverage for pigmentation spots and couperose. Some lines — like Skintuition and Powder-Me — add a fourth layer: mineral SPF that actively protects the skin while worn.

Which type of Jane Iredale foundation suits you?

Smooth Affair Face Primer: A primer is not a foundation, but it is the step that determines how your foundation will look. The Smooth Affair line includes three variants — brightening for dull skin, mattifying for oily and combination skin, and illuminating glow for dry or tired skin. For those who want a smoother base and better makeup adhesion all day, this is the logical first step.

Skintuition SPF30 Liquid Foundation: Jane Iredale’s newest liquid foundation combines mineral SPF 30, hyaluronic acid, and a Superfood Complex in one formula. With 26 shades across seven undertone families, this line offers one of the broadest shade ranges in the collection, and the radiance finish makes it suitable for those seeking a natural, hydrated complexion with daily sun protection.

Beyond Matte Liquid Foundation: For those with oily or combination skin who need quick shine control and high coverage, Beyond Matte is the right choice. The semi-matte liquid 3-in-1 formula with celery seed extract and tamarind keeps skin matte all day without drying out, and is available in 18 shades from fair to deep.

HydroPure Tinted Serum: A tinted serum is not a foundation but a nourishing product that hydrates the skin and lightly evens tone. With hyaluronic acid, olive squalane, and CoQ10, HydroPure actively nourishes the skin while providing sheer coverage with a dewy finish. For those seeking a no-makeup look with skincare benefits, available in 8 shades from fair to deeper.

Dream Tint Tinted Moisturizer SPF15: Dream Tint is a tinted day cream combining hydration, light coverage, and mineral SPF 15. For those who don’t want full foundation but desire a cared-for, even complexion, this line offers 7 colors — including a Peach Brightener for dark circles and a Warm Bronze for sculpting.

PurePressed Base Mineral Foundation SPF20/15: Jane Iredale’s best-selling product and the reference for mineral makeup within the skin therapy world. This pressed Jane Iredale powder foundation with titanium dioxide and zinc oxide offers buildable coverage from light to full coverage in 27 shades, and is supplied as a refill for the Jane Iredale Refillable Compact.

Amazing Base Loose Mineral Powder SPF20/15: The loose powder version of the mineral foundation concept. For those who love a light, buildable Jane Iredale powder finish, Amazing Base delivers medium coverage with mineral SPF in 20 shades. Suitable as the only foundation or as a setting powder over a liquid formula, and especially well tolerated by sensitive skin.

Powder-Me SPF30 Dry Sunscreen: Not a foundation in the classic sense, but a Jane Iredale powder sunscreen applied over makeup to refresh SPF throughout the day. Available in 4 colors from translucent to tanned, offered as a refillable brush and as a refill — indispensable for those who want to maintain UV protection all day without disturbing makeup.

Tips for the right choice

For those just starting with Jane Iredale foundation: start with your skin type before looking at finish or coverage. Dry or mature skin feels at home with liquid hydrating formulas like Skintuition or HydroPure. Oily and combination skin works better with Beyond Matte or a Jane Iredale powder layer from PurePressed Base or Amazing Base.

For those prioritizing SPF: choose a formula that includes protection — Skintuition (SPF 30), PurePressed Base (SPF 20/15), Amazing Base (SPF 20/15), or Dream Tint (SPF 15). Optionally combine with Powder-Me SPF30 for touch-ups throughout the day.

For those who love layering: a primer (Smooth Affair) as a base, followed by a liquid foundation (Skintuition, Beyond Matte, HydroPure, or Dream Tint) and a finishing Jane Iredale powder layer (Amazing Base or PurePressed Base) provides the most professional and long-lasting finish.

For those fluctuating between seasons: liquid foundations like Skintuition offer more flexibility by mixing different shades, while the Jane Iredale powder lines are more suitable for those who keep their shade consistent for a long time.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a liquid foundation and a Jane Iredale powder foundation?

A liquid foundation like Skintuition or Beyond Matte adheres directly to the skin and often offers higher coverage and more skincare ingredients. A Jane Iredale powder foundation like PurePressed Base or Amazing Base sits on the skin in light layers and is especially suitable for those who prefer a natural, breathable finish or have oily to combination skin. Both can also be combined — liquid as a base and mineral powder as a setting layer.

Which Jane Iredale foundation suits sensitive skin or skin after professional treatment?

All Jane Iredale foundations are dermatologically tested and suitable for sensitive skin, but for recovering skin after peeling, laser, or microneedling, the Jane Iredale powder lines (PurePressed Base, Amazing Base) and the tinted serum (HydroPure) are the gentlest options. Skintuition with mineral SPF 30 is also suitable due to its zinc oxide base without chemical filters.

Can I combine different Jane Iredale foundation lines?

Yes, and it is even recommended for a professional finish. A primer from the Smooth Affair line forms the base, followed by a liquid foundation of your choice, and set with a Jane Iredale powder layer from Amazing Base or PurePressed Base. Moreover, Powder-Me SPF30 works over any combination as a daily SPF booster.

How do I find my shade in the different Jane Iredale lines?

Start by determining your undertone — cool (blue veins, silver jewelry flatters), warm (green veins, gold jewelry flatters), or neutral. Then choose your depth level from fair to deeper. The Jane Iredale website offers an online foundation finder and virtual try-on, and if in doubt, you can contact Glamskin for advice.

Which Jane Iredale foundation is suitable for daily SPF protection?

Four foundation lines contain mineral SPF: Skintuition (SPF 30), PurePressed Base and Amazing Base (SPF 20 or 15 depending on shade), and Dream Tint (SPF 15). For maximum protection, combine these with Powder-Me SPF30 as a touch-up product throughout the day. All use zinc oxide and/or titanium dioxide as physical filters, suitable for sensitive skin and recommended by The Skin Cancer Foundation.
